I'm nervous about my first meeting with my lawyer. Any advice?

Here are some tips on how to have a successful first meeting with your lawyer:

Be prepared.  Bring all relevant documents with you, even if you don’t think they are important.  This will help your lawyer better understand your situation.

Be truthful.  Your lawyer will ask you detailed questions about your legal issue.  Answering honestly and not leaving out any details will ensure that your lawyer can give you the most effective help.

Have a goal.  What do you hope to get out of this meeting?

Ask questions.  Have a list of questions you may want to ask your lawyer.

What if I cannot talk during normal business hours and can only talk after 5:00 pm?

Many potential clients contact our firm after business hours. This makes sense as some of our clients have full-time jobs and thus, are unable to talk between the hours in which our firm is opened. However, our law firm will be more than happy to schedule a phone consultation after hours and well into the evening in the event you are unable to talk during normal business hours. Fill out our contact form and we will contact you via email or by phone to schedule a mutually convenient time.

What should I bring to the initial consultation?

For your first appointment, please bring any relevant documents and information that pertain to your case or situation. This may include contracts, agreements, correspondence, or any other relevant paperwork. Additionally, it would be helpful to bring identification documents, such as a valid ID or passport. Lastly, come prepared with a list of questions or concerns you may have so that we can address them thoroughly during our meeting. We are here to provide you with the best possible assistance, and having these materials ready will help us better understand your needs and provide appropriate guidance.

What is the cost of service?

At Battlewise Law, the cost of our services varies based on the nature and complexity of the case. We offer both flat-rate and hourly options. Flat-rate services typically cover limited family law matters. Our attorney fees range from $380 to $500 per hour. For more details, please feel free to contact us directly.

What is a Fee agreement?

A Fee agreement refers to a written contract agreed to and signed by BattleWise Law and a client. The agreement will set out the services we will perform for you, the types of fees, and the amount you should expect to pay.  We require fee agreements to commence work but typically will not prepare a fee agreement until after the initial consultation to ensure we fully understand your needs.

How do retainers work?

A retainer is a sum of money paid upfront to an attorney to secure their services for a case. The attorney then bills against this retainer for the time and expenses incurred during the case, and the retainer is replenished as needed. Retainers are typically based on an estimated number of hours required for the case and are used to cover ongoing legal fees and expenses.
